» Violet Snow - Feb. 07 Hunt

I found the red berries of staghorn sumac on the side of my road. I am fascinated by these berries because they are fuzzy. Both the berries, which grow in a tall, narrow clump, and the twigs, too, feel like velvet to the touch. It's an amazing sensation to get from a tree.

» Violet Snow - Summer scavenger hunt

The June/July scavenger hunt focuses on using the senses to explore plants. I love the surprise I get when I scratch and sniff a leaf and there's a strong fragrance, like the sharp, clear smell of peppermint. Petting mullein and lady's mantle is soothing and pleasurable because they are so furry and soft.
