Premier Spring Gardening Show Debuts in Glendale, Arizona March 2009

The first ever Southwest Flower and Garden Show in Glendale Arizona is exhibiting a premier display of flowers and gardens from March 6th through March 9th 2009.

The University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona is hosting the first ever Southwest Flower and Garden Show in March 2009; imitating the style of the Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago Flower shows, which typically attract over 250,000 visitors per show, the Southwest Flower and Garden Show will showcase some of the many exotic and unusual plants and flowers of the American Southwest.

Content of the Southwest Flower and Garden Show

The Southwest Flower and Garden Show, sponsored by the Arizona Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Arizona Nursery Association, will feature:

  • Display gardens
  • Garden competitions
  • Container garden exhibits
  • Plant market
  • Floral design demonstrations and competitions
  • Garden cafe
  • Garden marketplace
  • Floral and gardening seminars
  • Author and book signing presentations
  • Education workshops for children and adults.

Featured Flower and Garden Show Gardens and Societies

One of the main features of the Southwest Flower and Garden Show will be the show gardens showcasing landscape architecture, outdoor living accessories and creative plant use by many Southwestern landscape contractors and architects. Local garden clubs and flower societies will have garden products for sale and will be able to advise on the many aspects of horticulture.

Shopping for Southwest Plants and Garden Accessories

The Plant and Garden Marketplace will offer a wide array of plants, flowers, seeds, and products available to buy for the garden; the Outdoor Living Showcase will feature the latest designs and trends in accessories for the backyard. There will also be a Patio Ready Container Garden Sale; creative designs of plants and containers, designed by the Arizona Nursery Association and the Arizona Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, will be available for sale, with sale proceeds supporting both societies' scholarship funds.

Educational Southwest Gardening Seminars

University of Arizona Cooperative Extension Master Gardening Seminars will be available for both beginner and professional gardeners; there will also be book signings and presentations by Kim Nelson, Mary Irish, George Brookbank, Scott Calhoun and 3TV's Dave the Garden Guy scheduled throughout the three day event.

Featured Southwest Flower and Garden Show Wedding and More

On Friday March 6 2009, MEGA 104.3 will sponsor the wedding celebration of a bridal couple who will marry within the garden show gardens. Arizona florists and designers will be featured in the Floral Visions Floral Design Competition. The Green Showcase will feature products and services which have minimum impact on the garden environment and promote sustainability.

  • open from 10am to 5pm on Sunday March 8 2009

  • admission is $8 for adults
  • admission is $4 for children aged 3 – 12 years
  • admission is free for children aged 2 and under
  • Senior day (Friday March 6, 10am to 12 noon) – admission for seniors aged 60 and over is $1
