Garfield Park and Lincoln Park Conservatories are sister properties that feature changing flower shows throughout the year for a family friendly day among exotic plants.

Chicago’s two historic conservatories provide magical indoor gardens of brilliant blossoms and foliage. The chill of the Chicago winter can melt away amidst the indoor tropical splendor. Spend the day in a historic conservatory for a family friendly outing, for a romantic daytime date or a relaxing solo walk in the garden.

Walking through the park is rejuvenating for the mind and spirit, and the conservatories offer a place to refresh the mind away from the hustle on the Chicago streets.

Garfield Park Conservatory and the Lincoln Park Conservatories are operated by the Chicago Park system. They feature shows for spring, summer and the holiday season so the displays of colorful flowers and blooms change during the year.

Garfield Park Conservatory

Garfield Park Conservatory celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008. One of the largest conservatories in the United States, Garfield Park opened in 1908. The centennial birthday year continues with special events through April, 2009.

The Winter 2008 Holiday Traditions show will continue through January 11, 2009. At the end of January the Spring Flower Show will take place at Horticulture Hall.

  • Spring Flower Show January 31 through May 10
  • Summer Tropical Show June 6 through September 27
  • Holiday Flower Show November 28 through January 10, 2010

Garfield Park and the conservatory are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1994 a multi year, mutli-million dollar plan to restore the Conservatory was started. The new indoor Elizabeth Morse Genior Children’s Garden is designed for younger visitors.

The Garfield Park Conservatory is open every day, 365 days a year, from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission to the Conservatory is free. A suggested donation may be asked for special shows and exhibits.

Lincoln Park Conservatory

Lincoln Park Conservatory features the Winter Flower & Train Show through January 4. The Spring Flower Show runs from January 24 through May 10 and features azaleas, hydrangeas and other springtime flowers.

The Lincoln Park Conservatory is owned and operated by the Chicago Park District. The Conservatory was designed by Victorian era architect Joseph Lyman Silsbee and built in phases between 1890 and 1895.

Lincoln Park Conservatory is located just five minutes north of downtown. The park, which is open 365 days a year from 9 am to 5 pm is free.
