The Chicago Botanic Garden offers an escape from the stresses of the city, with 26 different formal gardens and natural environments located north of the City of Chicago.

The Chicago Botanic Garden is a serene day escape in the North Shore area on the Chicago Suburbs, with gardens of varied themes on 385 acres on the outskirts of the City of Chicago. The gardens provide a great getaway for a few hours, a bit of respite away from the stresses of the city. Spending time at the garden is a refreshing break to renew the mind and spirit.

Chicago Botanic Garden 285 Acres of Gardens

The Chicago Botanic Garden is a 385 acre property that features 23 display gardens and three native habitats, situated on islands surrounded by lakes. The Garden is one of the most visited gardens in the country and is a center for learning and scientific research.

The Garden was established with the grant of 300 acres of forested land on the outskirts of Chicago to the Chicago Horticultural Society in 1963 and opened in 1972. Today the Garden consists of 385 acres of woods, waterways, three natural areas and 23 formal garden displays.

Plan a Visit to the Chicago Botanic Garden

Visitors are able to explore an ever changing landscape of gardens, strolling between rose gardens, Japanese gardens, bulb displays and majestic trees. The size of the gardens makes it difficult to see everything in one day, so get a map at the entrance and plan a route. One visit gives visitors an idea of the size and scope of the gardens, so plans can be made for return visits.

Admission to the garden is free, but there is a $20 fee for parking. Members of the Chicago Botanic Garden get free parking, along with other member benefits.

The Chicago Botanic Garden is located at 1000 Lake Cook Road in Glencoe, Illinois.
